HR BioPetroleum has licensed from Mera a key patent and related technology for HRBP’s algae-based cultivation process. In addition, HRBP leases its pilot facility on Kona from Mera. University of Hawaii

University of Hawaii LogoHR BioPetroleum has exclusive commercial license rights to an extensive algae collection maintained by the University of Hawaii. This library is one of the largest in the world, and amongst others holds the algae collection of the Aquatic Species Program, a U.S. Department of Energy sponsored study on feasibility of algal biodiesel in the 1980s. The library’s curator is a member of the scientific team that is further developing HRBP’s algae cultivation and processing technologies.

HRBP expects to continue to evaluate and develop new algae strains as part of ongoing discovery programs as well as optimization programs based primarily on classical breeding techniques.
